Being complacent has its perks. Your life seems stable when it’s routine. However, if we do not grow, we may miss out on great opportunities and the possibility of enjoying a higher quality of life. Also, if you lack motivation in certain areas of your life, your health and well-being can be affected for the worst and deteriorate over time. Take me for example, due to my busy schedule I formed a habit of eating out often. I stopped incorporating the right amount of fruits and vegetables in my diet; and on top of that not exercising regularly. In keeping it real, I did little to none at all. My physical activity was sedentary, to say the least. As a result I gained weight, and over time a lot of weight. Not only that, I became fatigued earlier in my work day than usual, and my immune system had depleted drastically. So pretty much, I got to a point where I was sick and tired. I knew I had to do something and seeing a picture of me looking like the big year blimp that had blew up overnight; that did it for me. Instead of doing a dietary fad and looking for ways to lose weight quickly, I started fresh one day. From that day on, I have been consistently working toward my goals in improving my health. Just three months down and I’m halfway there to reaching my ideal weight. It has not been easy. I have had my bad days, but I feel a whole lot better than when I first started. Most often the hardest stages of breaking bad habits, is the starting point and the mid point. It takes a change in mindset to begin taking steps in another direction, and it takes motivation and determination to complete the change. It is beneficial to keep in mind the purpose of changing during times of discouragement. Hope must be present when aiming to reach the finish line. When you reach the midpoint or the place where you feel there is insurmountable pressure to push forward and continue; it helps to acknowledge your accomplishments thus far. Feelings of achievement can provide us with the confidence we need to fuel our energy to go further than we expected. This is not the only area in my life I need to work on, but its best to work on one major change at a time, until it becomes habitual. It only took a few changes to reshape my physical health within a few months. I have more energy, a boost in my immune system, and I feel and look better. I would like to encourage my readers to become more flexible in living and less complacent to reap the benefits of a healthier lifestyle! I have received inspiration from others, whom have made it a priority to stay physically fit and healthy. The choice is ours to remain the same or to change, either way; we’ll have to deal with the repercussions one day.
