Happy Father's Day!!! On this day it is bittersweet for most. Our society for various reasons do not exalt men as much as women for their contributions in parenting. This issue is discomforting because we overlook the men who rise to the occasion, and the ones who take on the responsibility of other men's children. We overlook the pain of children who recognize that a father is vital to their development. We overlook grandfathers, teachers, coaches, big brothers, mentors, uncles, and friends, who step in to fill in the voids. I understand as a woman the responsibility of being a single parent trying to fulfill both roles. I have also witnessed men in the same capacity. I don't praise one over the other; but I am aware of the importance of both figures! I see the impact it has on children who is missing either or, or both parents. As I grieve for my child, who lost her father at an early age, I grieve for the rest of the world who are fatherless. Thanks be to God that our Father in heaven will fill up that void, as it is written "A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling" Psalm 68:5. I encourage you to overlook the bitter and grab a hold of the sweeter! Lets build our men up and honor them today! Love Jenieka....
